Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the 36-year-old Gabonese international forward for Marseille, has been left out of the traveling squad after sparking a fire extinguisher incident.
Marseille secured a 1-0 away victory against Le Havre, which features Japanese defender Yuito Suzuki, on March 10, but Aubameyang was notably absent. According to multiple media outlets including ESPN, the team, which had managed just one win, one draw, and four losses in their last six matches, was forced into a clubhouse training camp as punishment ahead of the Le Havre clash.
During this camp, Aubameyang and several other players reportedly plotted a prank on Tahari, a former long-distance runner who also competed in the Olympics and works as a performance staff member. While Tahari was monitoring the players’ curfew, they sprayed a fire extinguisher at him.
Currently, Marseille sits in sixth place with one game remaining, narrowly clinging to a European competition spot. In such a tense environment, this slapstick-like behavior was enough to spark anger. Although Aubameyang apologized, he was not forgiven.
The former speedy forward, who netted 22 goals during his time at Arsenal in the 2018-19 season and won the Premier League Golden Boot, has also played for big clubs like Barcelona and Chelsea.
