Hiroshima Carp left-handed pitcher Shogo Tamamura will take the mound against the Yomiuri Giants on May 13 in Fukui, marking his first professional start in his hometown. “A lot of people from around me will come to watch, so it’s different from usual. I want to make sure I get results,” he said with determination.
Tamamura, a native of Fukui Prefecture, made a name for himself at Nyu High School during the 2019 summer Fukui tournament, striking out a total of 52 batters across one tournament. Notably, four of his five games in that tourney were played at the same ballpark where the upcoming Giants game will be held. With professional baseball being a rare event in his home region, Tamamura declared, “As a professional player, I want to have a serious battle. I hope the fans watching will see my play and think, ‘I want to aim for that level.'”
This season, Tamamura made his debut on April 30 against the Giants at Tokyo Dome, allowing one run on six hits over five innings, with no decision.
