Real Madrid suffered a 2-0 away defeat to Barcelona in the 35th round of La Liga, allowing the Catalan club to clinch the league title. After the match, Real Madrid interim coach Álvaro Arbeloa addressed his future and the team’s remaining games.
“We will definitely talk to the club, as usual. Right now, I want the team to finish the season strongly and not give up in the last three matches. Players who train well will get a chance to play and end the season on the field. That’s my goal now, and that’s what I will focus on over these two weeks. As for the future, we will see around May 24-25,” said Arbeloa.
Arbeloa took over from Xabi Alonso as coach of ‘Los Blancos’ in early January. Under his leadership, the team has recorded 15 wins, 8 losses, and 2 draws in 25 matches. Real Madrid ends the season without any trophies.
The match at Camp Nou saw goals from Marcus Rashford (9′) and Ferran Torres (18′). Barcelona dominated with 7 shots on target compared to Real Madrid’s 1, and committed 18 fouls vs 9. The referee was Alejandro José Hernández Hernández.
